Below 2000 px, Etsy enlarges for you

The zoom feature needs 2000 pixels on the shortest side. Upload less and Etsy stretches your photo to reach it, inventing pixels rather than adding detail.

Compression happens twice

A JPG you already saved at 60% quality gets compressed again by Etsy's CDN. Artefacts stack. Export once at high quality and let Etsy do the rest.

1 MB is the ceiling

Larger files get re-compressed harder, which can undo the quality you were trying to protect. Sitting comfortably under the limit beats scraping the top of it.

Search crops to 5:4

Your square listing photo is displayed as a landscape thumbnail in search results, cropped from the centre. Keep the product away from the top and bottom edges.

What size should Etsy listing photos be?

At least 2000 pixels on the shortest side. That is the threshold where Etsy enables zoom on the listing page, and below it Etsy upscales your photo, which is why small uploads look soft. Square 2000 x 2000 is the safe default; 2700 x 2025 fills more of the listing card if your product suits landscape.

Why do my Etsy photos look blurry after uploading?

Usually one of two things. Either the photo was under 2000 pixels and Etsy enlarged it, or it was already a heavily compressed JPG and Etsy's compression ran over it a second time. Upload the original file at full resolution rather than a version that has been saved and re-saved.

What is the Etsy file size limit?

1 MB per photo. This resizer shows the output size before you download, so you can lower the quality slider or switch to WebP until it fits rather than finding out at upload.

Should I use fill or fit when resizing?

Fill crops the edges to reach the exact dimensions, which is what you want for listing photos where the product is centred. Fit shrinks the whole image and pads the gaps with a background colour, which suits logos and banners where nothing can be cut off.
